Variation en miroir
by Anne-Kristin Vaudour and chaussette b.
an associated project with le french may arts festival
showed in Hong Kong in May 2020 at The Hive Gallery
Using an ID photo of each other, the pop surrealist german artist and the french paintographer chaussette b. are showcasing their own interpretations of five predefined themes, ranging from Memories of a Geisha, Long Live the Queen, Spirit of the Beast, Big Eyes through Once Upon a Time. Each image tells a different story that let’s you dive into a fantasy world.
The exhibition encourages the viewer to
explore the limitless possibilities of portrait variation and invites the audience to think about what could be their own interpretation of each universe.
Anne-Kristin is using digital illustration and chaussette b. uses paintography.
Each of chaussette b.'s paintograph is the combination of dozens of photographs she capture herself in many different places, then brazenly twist, manipulate and combine to get the canvas she had in mind. From photographs blends and by overlaying her photographs, she came with a painting- looks-like final workart.
the project began with chaussette b. discovering a forgotten worn out photo of her grandma. Deciding to bring her back to life, she started to collect old ladies pictures to build up something with their story.
Ultimately, those women came out of the drawers, transformed, ready to be presented anew, with fresh colors and make-up, in settings created by the artist based on mundane daily objects, transformed for an instant as the new context of the new life those outstanding ladies genuinely deserved.
This serie is showed at Pirate Bay Cheung Chau from 27th of April to 19th May 2019, an associated project with Le french may
